“Not either Men Are Sly Foxes” was written by Armin A. Brott in 1992. His piece is aimed at parents of young children and discusses the possibility of children’s books negatively stereotyping men. He provides many examples and even provides his theory of what effect this pull up stakes have on our young generations. His thesis states “If you thought your children’s books were finally free of openly discriminatory materials, you’d recrudesce check again…there is one very overlarge group whose portrayal continues to follow the same stereotypical lines as always: fathers.” (345-346) While some authors, including Richard Scarry, have gone emerge of their way to maintain a fair picture of women in the run place. One example is in Mother squeeze and the Sly Fox where a single mother (Mother Goose) of cardinal goslings is pitted against (and naturally outwits) the sly Fox. Fox, a neglectful, presumably dismissed single father, lives with his filthy, hungry pups in a grimy sea chantey littered with the bones of their previous meals. Mother Goose, a thriving entrepreneur with a thriving lace business, still finds clipping to serve her goslings homemade soup in pretty porcelain cups. (346)
