EXPORT DEMAND ELASTICITIES FOR PAKISTANS JUTE TRADE K. H. IMAM* Pakistans reliance on jute merchandises call for not be stressed; it is well-known. With the passage of time, however, there has been a gradual erosion of jutes role in Pakistans export trade. til now so, its position is still too important not to apologise critical attention and from that viewpoint the purpose of this paper is to enumerate the elasticity of export demand for Pakistans raw jute and jute goods. Much drive has recently been devoted to specif}dng the world export demand for jute (1., pp., 288-292) moreover all such efforts failed to consider the effect of set indemnity of competing exporting countries on their relative export demand. Yet i would expect that any attempt by a kingdom to increase its export volume would induce compensatory changes in the price policy of competing exporting countries. The model underl}dng this study has been designed to stupefy such reactions into account. This study provides a method on tbe rump of which effective price-policy for Pakistans export trade in jute can be framed. The basis of this work is the earher work done by kor [5] and Malach [7]. METHOD The method of deriving the export demand elasticity involves fundamentally the determination of two elasticities: the price-elasticity of import demand in the import countries and the elasticity of export supply in competing exporting countries. abandoned any export price level, p, the amount (x) of a disposed commodity exported from a given country equals the world export demand (x) for the same commodity net of the amount supplied, s, by the competing exporting countries.
